This is the detailed checklist (revised 7/16/25) I use for every guitar and bass that comes through my shop. I check off what's done and cross out what doesn't apply. You'll find notes (by number) for anything you should know about your instrument.
Some of it may seem obvious or trivial, but rarely do I see a guitar where all the nuts and screws are tight. You'd be surprised how impactful a really complete maintenance job can be to the playability and enjoyment of your guitar.
Setup Add-Ons
Some guitars require a little more than a setup. I do my best to diagnose extra issues during drop-off, but sometimes I need to reach out when I get into the job.
Sometimes frets need a more complete makeover with a level, crown & dress. This addresses fret height, shape and sharpness.
Guitars can get pretty dusty and grungy from sweat and finger oils. That's no problem, but does require some extra effort!
Guitars with rusty parts and/or really crusty, grungy dirt may need extensive cleaning or light restoration. No problem!
Sometimes the nut has become too worn for repair, and a brand new nut is shaped and fitted.
Poorly fit saddles can damage your bridge. Shaping and fitting a new saddle is an inexpensive fix.
Complex bridges, like Floyd Rose® tremolo systems, add time and complexity to setups.
Detached guitar bridges have to positioned carefully to balance action and intonation.
I maintain inventory of "light" strings for electric, acoustic, classical & bass guitars!
Got a gig? Recording date? Birthday? Whatever the rush, I can usually accomodate it.
